Golden Eagles to host senior day, final home weekend series

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Three Golden Eagles will be honored on Sunday as the Tennessee Tech softball team hosts SIU Edwardsville in a three-game series starting Saturday at 1 p.m.

Brooke Basten, Whitney Cummings and Holly Thomas will suit up for their final home weekend game at the Tech Softball Field and will be honored prior to Sunday's game. Hailing from Wisconsin, Oklahoma and Tennessee, the trio has combined for 483 games and more than 1,200 at-bats in their four-year careers.

Both teams enter the weekend looking to lock up a spot in the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference Championship Tournament. The Cougars are currently 10-10, ranked seventh in the OVC and sit just one spot behind the Golden Eagles (11-11). The top six teams make the tournament for a chance to play in the NCAA playoffs. Tech has made the OVC tournament in all but one year since it was instituted.

The Golden Eagles have won their last three home games while SIUE has won seven of its last ten OVC contests. The Cougars are 3-9 on the road in conference and Tech holds a record of 5-8 in Cookeville.

The Golden Eagles have just one more conference series to make up ground, that coming at Morehead State at the end of the season. Tech hosts a pair of doubleheaders this week before going on the road to round out the year.

Admission is free at the Tech Softball Field. Two games are scheduled to be played on Saturday with a single game on Sunday. With rainy weather looming, follow @TTUGoldenEagles for updates on delays.
