Boys of Summer: Pryor earns first win in no-hitter

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Former Tennessee Tech pitcher Stephen Pryor earned his first major league win as he took part in Seattle’s 1-0, no-hit victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Pryor was one of six different pitchers used in Seattle’s win over the Dodgers, where he struck out one batter.  

Pryor is one of six Golden Eagles currently playing professional baseball with two others in Double-A, two in Advanced Single-A and one in short season Single-A.

 

Stephen Pryor – Seattle Mariners

Pryor has made five appearances since he got called up from the Tacoma Rainiers last week and has tallied one win and five strikeouts. His first career win came in during the Mariners’ no-hit victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he struck out one batter. He has thrown five innings at the major league level and has a 1.80 ERA.

Adam Liberatore – Montgomery Biscuits (Double-A, Tampa Bay Rays)

Liberatore has appeared in four games over the last two weeks and has thrown a total of 6.2 innings. During that stretch he has posted three strikeouts, while allowing six hits. This season, Liberatore has put together a 3-3 record, with 15 strikeouts and two saves, in 32 innings with the Biscuits.

Ryan Dennick – Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Double-A, Kansas City Royals)

In the last two weeks, Dennick has thrown 10 innings in three appearances for the Naturals. He has struck out nine batters during that stretch and earned his second win since earning his promotion. He has now appeared in seven games at the Double-A level and has a 2-1 record with 17 strikeouts and a save in 21.1 innings pitched.

A.J. Kirby-Jones – Stockton Ports (Single-A, Oakland A’s)

Kirby-Jones has been on fire in his last 10 games as he has put together a .361 batting average, with 13 hits, two home runs and 10 RBIs. He has five multi-hit games in his last 10 and has driven in at least one RBI in six of his last 10 games as well. He is tied for the team-lead in home runs this season with 12 and is second on the team with 40 RBIs.

Chad Oberacker – Stockton Ports (Single-A, Oakland A’s)

Oberacker has batted .311 in his last 10 games, as he has posted 14 hits, including six doubles and a triple. He has posted a hit in nine of his last 10 games and has scored five runs and stolen four bases. On the season, he is batting .278 with three home runs and 15 RBIs.

Matthew Shepherd – Eugene Emeralds (Single-A, San Diego Padres)

Shepherd was drafted by the Padres in the 31st round of the 2012 draft and will join the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League. Their short-season begins Friday.
