Golden Eagles even series with 7-6 win over Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. --- Tennessee Tech's four-run eighth proved too much for Jacksonville State Friday evening, as the Golden Eagles evened the series with a 7-6 win.

TTU's Evan Frazier and Zephan Guyear provided the pop for the Tech offense as they combined for six of the Golden Eagles seven runs driven in.

It was Guyear who provided the big hits in the early innings as he drove in the first run of the game in the third with a sacrifice fly. He would follow up with his second home run in as many games with a two-run shot in the fifth to give the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead.

While Guyear was driving in the runs, TTU starter Matthew Shepherd was making things difficult for the JSU hitters, as he held the Gamecocks scoreless through five innings.

JSU was finally able to get to Shepherd in the bottom of the sixth as they tallied two runs to pull within one at 3-2.

After a scoreless seventh inning, the Golden Eagles put together a four-run rally to increase their lead to 7-2. Dylan Bosheers got the scoring going with an RBI-single. With two on and two out, Frazier tallied his fifth home run of the season to give Tech a 7-2 lead.

Trailing by five, Jacksonville State got one run back in the bottom eighth and made things interesting in the ninth as the Gamecocks rallied for three more runs to make it 7-6, before TTU's David Hess recorded the final out to secure the win for Tech.

Shepherd (3-2) earned the win as he struck out three batters in five innings. Cullen Park came on in relief of Shepherd in the sixth and threw 2.2 innings, while posting four strikeouts.

JSU starter Daniel Watts (2-3) took the loss as he gave up four runs in seven innings. JSU relief pitchers Tanner Freshour and Bradley Raulston threw the final two innings for JSU as Freshour gave up three runs in 0.2 innings, before giving way for Raulston who recorded the final four outs.

The Golden Eagles wrap up their series with JSU Saturday at 2 p.m.
