COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- A five-run second inning and a six-run fifth inning proved to be the difference Sunday afternoon as Tennessee Tech claimed the series with a 13-7 win against Morehead State.

With the win, the Golden Eagles improved to 9-12 in Ohio Valley Conference play and currently hold the final playoff spot in the OVC Tournament field.

The Golden Eagles managed to plate 13 runs, on 14 hits in the game, as four TTU players drove in at least two runs on the day.

Dylan Bosheers got the scoring going in the second as he cranked his fourth home run of the season over the left field fence to give Tech the early 1-0. TTU was not finished as James Abraham and Zach Stephens each posted two-run singles to give the Golden Eagles a 5-0 lead before the final out of the inning was tallied.

Morehead State answered right back in top of the third as the Eagles rallied for six runs, four of which came from Andrews Deeds' grand slam. Luke Bainer and Nick Duff also drove in a run to give MSU the 6-5 lead.

Starters David Hess and Garrick Whittle calmed things down in the fourth as both teams went 1-2-3 in the inning, but in the bottom of the fifth the Golden Eagles reclaimed the lead for good as they put together their own six-run inning, using five hits and one MSU error.

Michael Morris led off the fifth with a double, and eventually came around to score on a throwing error to knot up the score at six. Frazier added two more with an RBI-double down the right field line. James Abraham, and Morris also tallied an RBI before Ben Burgess grounded in the inning-ending double play.

Hess, who gave up six runs in the third, looked sharp the rest of the way allowed just one run in the eighth inning before being lifted for Garrett Baugh who got the final five outs to end the game.

Hess (3-6) earned the win as he struck out four batters in 7.1 innings. Whittle (1-4) took the loss as he gave up nine runs, five earned, in four innings of work. MSU relievers Josh Schneider and Gerardo Arias each gave up two runs , before Matt Cartwright came in to throw a scoreless eighth inning for the Eagles.

Abraham and Morris led TTU with three RBIs, while Morehead State's Deeds notched a game-high four RBIs. Morris also posted a game-high three hits, while Abraham, Bosheers, Zephan Guyear and Chad Hayes each recorded two.

The Golden Eagles (19-27, 9-12 OVC) take a break from conference action as they travel to Clemson Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. game.
