Three Golden Eagle golfers named All-American Scholars by WGCA

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Three members of the Tennessee Tech women's golf team have been recognized as All-American Scholars for 2014-15 by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).

Megan Williamson, Anna Cunningham and Lydia Triplett were among the collegiate golfers recognized with the prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.

"I am very proud of Anna, Lydia, and Megan for receiving this award," said Golden Eagle coach Polk Brown. "They have done outstanding work in the classroom which is signified by the honor. They are outstanding, young ladies, and I look forward to having them back in August."

The three Golden Eagle golfers were among a group 27 from the Ohio Valley Conference included in the 758 players chosen from throughout every NCAA Division as well as NAIA schools.

A junior from Murfreesboro, Tenn., Williamson was chosen as a team co-captain for the 2014-15 season. Majoring in journalism with a concentration in public relations, Williamson owns a 3.81 GPA. She earned the team's Best Putter Award, flashing her skills on the green in her hometown at the Blue Raider Invitational. In the fall season finale, she took control of the Tech 54-hole scoring record, totaling a 218 to finish third at the event. She was third on the team in scoring average with a mark of 77.9 while earning three Top 5 finishes.

Cunningham is a sophomore from Cookeville studying animal science and owns a 3.54 GPA. She played 28 tournament rounds in her first season on the course for the Golden Eagles and owned an 83.0 stroke average. At the conclusion of the season, she received the team's Impact Award.  Triplett just completed her sophomore season, playing 26 tournament rounds and posting an 82.4 stroke average. She is from Benton, Tenn., and owns a 3.738 GPA while majoring in nursing.

About the Women's Golf Coaches Association

The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
