Golden Eagles tied for 10th after first round of GolfWeek Program Challenge

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Solid play from three members of the Tennessee Tech women's golf team propped the Golden Eagles in a tie for 10th overall and in a position to improve its ranking following the first round of the GolfWeek Program Challenge Sunday afternoon.

With three Tech golfers tying for the team-lead in scoring at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, the team wrapped up its first round of action in the 2015-16 season with a 306 to tie with Houston Baptist for 10th place among the 18-team field. The Golden Eagles positioned themselves within 10 strokes of the Top 5 with two rounds of play still scheduled.

Senior veteran Maddi Everts marked one of three Golden Eagles to post a 4-over 75 in the year's first event, posting a team-best four birdies to finish tied for 25th overall. Also collecting a first-round score of 75, was fellow 2014-15 All-Ohio Valley Conference honoree Whitney Robertson. The junior also tied for 25th, notching two birdies over her first 18 holes of the year.

East Tennessee State transfer and the 2015 Tennessee Women's Amateur Championship medalist Allyson Dunn marked the third Tech golfer to card a 75 on the first day of action. The sophomore rounded out her first round as a Golden Eagle with three birdies to also tie for 25th in the 90-player field.

Another newcomer to the Tech squad, true freshman Hollee Sadler made an impact in her first collegiate tournament, rounding out the scoring for her team with an 81, highlighted by two birdies. Junior Lydia Triplett, who represented the fifth and final member of the Golden Eagle squad taking part at the event, finished her day just two strokes behind Sadler with a an 83.

The second round of the GolfWeek Program Challenge is scheduled for Monday morning with the Golden Eagles set to tee off at approximately 6:30 a.m. CT.
