MURRAY, Ky. – With just two rounds to make its mark at the Murray State Invitational, the Tennessee Tech women's golf team put itself in the right position to do that Monday afternoon, finishing the first round of the 14-team event in fifth place.

The Golden Eagles combined to shoot a 316 on the day, battling some breezy conditions at times to put themselves within spitting distance of the top spot in the tournament, 13 strokes behind host and round one leader Murray State.

"We left a lot of shots out there today," head coach Polk Brown said, "but we are looking to make a big move tomorrow. The ladies are looking forward to the opportunity to move up the leaderboard and are ready for the challenge."

After tying for first place in last year's edition of the event, Whitney Robertson did enough to find herself with a chance at the top spot yet again, firing a 5-over 77 to tie for seventh place. The sophomore led the Golden Eagles on the first day, making par or better on 12 holes.

Not far behind their teammate, seniors Maddi Everts and Megan Williamson each posted scores of 79, tying for 22nd in the field of 75. Everts tied for the second-most birdies over the first round, notching three total.

Sophomore transfer Allyson Dunn rounded out the scores for Tech, carding an 81 to sit in a tie for 33rd overall. Junior Haley Davidson posted an 89 in her first event of the season while freshman Hollee Sadler, playing as an individual, finished with an 84.

The second and final round of the Murray State Invitational is set to kick off Tuesday at 10 a.m. CT at the par 72, 6,017-yard Miller Memorial Golf Course.
