First Golden Wings Awards show to air LIVE on OVC Digital Network

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – "LIVE, from the Eblen Center at Tennessee Tech University, it’s the 2016 Golden Wings Awards."

Those words will kick off a night of memories for Tennessee Tech’s student-athletes, as the Athletics Department hosts the first-ever Golden Wings Awards Show on Tuesday, April 26.

The event is strictly for Golden Eagle student-athletes and coaches and the arena will be closed to the public, but fans, families and friends are invited to watch as the night’s festivities will be streamed live – and free -- on the OVC Digital Network. The event itself is NOT open to the public.

The night begins with Purple Carpet activities at 7 p.m., featuring “paparazzi” and “celebrity interviews,” with the show scheduled to go on-the-air live at 8 p.m.

Student-athletes and several area media representatives will fill the roles of awards presenters. Tech Assistant Athletic Director Rob Schabert will serve as the event emcee, while popular local DJ Freaky Dave provides music during the show.

The event is heavily video-based, with nominees and other features presented on the large Video Board in Eblen Center.

The Golden Wings Awards celebrates the on-field and in-classroom achievements of Golden Eagle student-athletes, with 14 brand new awards established for the event. The range of awards includes Male and Female Freshman of the Year, Newcomers of the Year, Breakthrough Athletes of the Year, Comeback Athlete of the Year, Play of the Year, Game of the Year, and Coach of the Year. The night will culminate in the naming of the 2015-16 Team of the Year.
