SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Saving its best for last, the Tennessee Tech women's golf team climbed the leaderboard on the final day of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, competing in the third and final round of action at Sevierville Golf Club Tuesday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles moved up two places to finish 12th among 15 teams in competition at their annual event, posting a 316 to finish at 974 overall. Austin Peay took home the tournament title, holding off a late push by Findlay with a score of 307 and a total of 894.
Findlay's Gabby Woods won individual medalist honors after delivering a 214, highlighted by a tournament-record, 5-under 66 on Monday.
Junior Ainsley Simms bounced back from a tough second round to card a 74 in round three, tying for 20th among the 85 participants to pace the purple and gold. Simms locked down a pair of birdies to finish the event with a 232.
Tying for 36th overall were twin sisters Katrine and Elisabeth Toennessen, each recording a 237 for the weekend. Katrine registered an 81 on the day while Elisabeth turned in a pair of birdies on her way to an 83.
Competing as an individual, Gittle Sciolis finished the day with an 84, tying for 59th overall. Tying for 66th were Makenzie Morton and Regan Stuke, each posting scores of 253. Morton secured one birdie for a score of 80 while Stuke collected a birdie of her own for a 79.
Rookies Kaydi Rhodes and Sydney Branson rounded out the Golden Eagle crew, with Rhodes tallying an 85 for a 260 final to place 76th. Branson totaled a 90 with one birdie, ranking 79th with a 363.
Tech will compete next at the Pinetree Women's Collegiate in Kennesaw, Ga., heading to Pinetree Country from Monday, Apr. 3 through Tuesday, Apr. 4.
