Purple and gold wraps up first event at Golfweek Fall Challenge

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team wrapped up play at the Golfweek Fall Challenge Tuesday afternoon, finishing the first tournament of the 2022-23 campaign at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawley's Island, S.C.

The purple and gold delivered a weekend-best 289 to total 894 for the weekend, moving up one place ahead of Stephen F. Austin to finish 16th among 20 teams in competition. Campbell captured the tournament crown with an 834 backed by a round-three score of 278. Austin Peay's Erica Scutt took home individual medalist honors, finishing with a 204.

Leading the Golden Eagle leaderboard was junior Ainsley Simms, carding a 1-under 70 to finish with a 221 overall score. She tied for 37th overall after carding five birdies on the day. Freshman Kaitlyn Rand also tied for 37th in the field of 104 golfers, totaling a 221 while competing as an individual. The rookie delivered a 73 with a pair of birdies and 12 pars. 

A trio of Golden Eagles tied for 62nd overall with scores of 226 with Katrine Toennessen leading the way during round three. The senior exploded for a career-low round of 3-under 68, reeling in six birdies along the way. Fellow senior Gittle Sciolis produced a 77 on the day with one birdie. Senior Elisabeth Toennessen put together a 76 with a single birdie to tie her teammates.

Concluding the lineup for the purple and gold was senior Makenzie Morton, who wrapped up the weekend with a 233. She shot a 75 with 14 pars to tie for 87th.

Next on the docket for the Golden Eagles is the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate Monday, Sept. 26 through Tuesday, Sept. 27 in Clarksville, Tenn. The event, hosted by Austin Peay, will take place at Clarksville Country Club.
