ARDEN, N.C. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team concluded play at the French Broad Collegiate Monday afternoon, finishing its first match-play event of the year with a 5-0 defeat by Gardner-Webb. Taking place at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove, USC Upstate won the tournament with a 3-2 decision over host UNC Asheville.
The Runnin' Bulldogs' Georgia Barr bested Tech senior Gittle Sciolis, 6&5, while Katelyn Griggs defeated Golden Eagle junior Ainsley Simms, 3&2. Freshman Reagan Stuke fell to Gillian O'Brien from Gardner-Webb, 3&1.
After picking up Tech's lone victory from Sunday's action against USC Upstate, senior Katrine Toennessen was defeated by the Runnin' Bulldogs' Kayla Dowell, 4&2. Rounding out the action, fellow senior and her twin sister Elisabeth Toennessen dropped a decision to Linnea Hofgren, 3&1.
Tech will return to the links for the spring season starting with the Islander Classic at Corpus Christi Country Club in Corpus Christi, Texas. The two-day event will run from Monday, Feb. 20 through Tuesday, Feb. 21.
