Pair of top-10 finishes pace Golden Eagles at F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team capped off action at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon, concluding play at Clarksville Country Club with an ascension up the leaderboard.

Following a 316, the team's best round of the tournament, the Golden Eagles jumped into sixth place among the 10 teams in competition with a final score of 965. Belmont lept past host Austin Peay to win the event with a 920. The Bruins' Delia Gibbs captured individual medalist honors with a 225.

Pacing the purple and gold was Ainsley Simms, narrowly missing out on All-Tournament honors with a sixth-place finish among the 59 golfers. The junior posted an 80 with a birdie and an eagle on the par-5 18th hole to wrap up the week with a 232 collectively. 

Competing as an individual, Makenzie Morton tied her career-best score from the first week of the season with a 233. The senior used one birdie to compile an 82 to tie for seventh overall. 

Fellow senior Katrine Toennessen posted her best round of the event on Tuesday, producing a 78 with a trio of birdies to secure a top-25 performance. Finishing 23rd overall, she totaled 240 for the week. Her sister, Elisabeth Toennessen also registered a 78 on the day, tying for 26th overall just two shots back. The senior used 10 pars and a birdie to round out the day with a 242.

Rookie Kaitlyn Rand saved her best round of the event for Tuesday, turning in an 80 with a birdie. She tied for 36th with a total score of 251. Rounding out the Tech lineup, senior Gittle Sciolis also performed her best in the final round with a pair of birdies and an 82. Her final score of 254 tied her for 40th overall.

Freshman Kaydi Rhodes wrapped up her collegiate debut with a round of 86 and one more birdie. Competing as an individual, the youngster concluded the week 43rd overall with a final score of 256.

Next up for the Golden Eagles is the two-day, Pirate Collegiate Classic hosted by East Carolina from Monday, Oct. 10 through Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Greenville Country Club in Greenville, S.C.
