Tech tackles rainy weather and garners top-ten finishes at UT

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Another Tennessee spring storm struck again in Knoxville for the closing day of the Sea Ray Invitational, but Tech logged multiple top-ten finishes on the day in relay events.

Freshman Kelli Keck made her debut for Tech in the long jump event. Typically a triple jumper, Keck leapt for a distance of 16'4 ¼" to a 13th place finish in the event. Keck also made an appearance on Tech's 800m relay team, running the third leg of the race to help her team – comprised of Krysten Joshen, Brittany Cotto and Ifeyinwa Eguzo - to a ninth place finish with a time of 1:48.76.

Cotto, a freshman on this year's squad, ran in two other relays on Saturday, including the 400m and 1600m events. She was joined by Joshen and Eguzo, as well as sophomore Justine Phillips in the 400m event, in which the team recorded a time of 50.56.

Joshen also ran with Cotto in the 1600, with Tech's A team rounded out by junior Emily Weinzetl and senior high jumper Katherine Lynn for a time of 4:12.16, while the B team (Elisa Tanksley, Dalis Connell, Danielle Catlett and Jenna Philpott) followed up with a 4:21.68.

Tech posted another top-ten finish on the day in the 3200m relay, in which a quartet of juniors in Emily Weinzetl, Jenna Philpott, Leah Bradley and Traci Jones combined for a 10:10.40 mark for tenth place. Bradley, Catlett, Traci Jones and Rebecca Cline also worked for a 13:38.66 time in the distance medley relay.

Senior Ashley Mayhew logged the Golden Eagles' only other field event of the day, tossing the shot put 37'2 ½" to finish in 16th place.
