finishes Friday by placing seventh in the discus at the Sea Ray
Invitational
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Despite a persistent, all-day rain that soaked
the Tom Black Track, Tennessee Tech's women's track & field
team recorded three personal-best marks Friday during the first
full day of action in the Sea Ray Invitational, hosted by the
University of Tennessee.
Personal marks were lowered in the 400-meter hurdles by Brittany
Cotto, 1,500-meter run by Yeshi Dohrmann and 5,000-meter run by
Rebecca Cline.
Junior Traci
Jones earned Tech's best finish of the day, claiming seventh
place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.29. Junior Emily Weinzetl
was seconds behind, placing ninth in 2:30.13, while freshman Dohrmann was
13th in 2:49.30.
Junior Leah
Bradley finished ninth in the 1,500-meter run, posting a time
of 5:18.02 in her first run at that distance. Dohrmann ran a
career-best 5:59.55 to finish 10th.
Cotto
wrote a new career-best in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of
1:06.00, the third-fastest time in school history. It earned her a
21st place finish.
Another career-best came from Cline, who was
ninth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:37.35.
Four first-year Golden Eagles made the rounds for the longest
event of the day, the 10,000-meter run, led by freshman Peri Winborne in
40:08.22 to place seventh. Sophomore Beth Miller was
eight in 40:54.34, followed by freshman Amelia McCoy in
42:19.19, and freshman Meghan O'Donoghue in 43:08.72.
In the field events, senior Katherine Lynn
had the team's top showing Friday with a sixth place effort in the
high jump at 5 feet, 5 inches.
Sophomore Madison Borden
garnered a seventh-place finish in the discus, unleashing a toss of
127 feet, 5 inches.
Running events on Saturday for the Golden Eagles will begin at
1:20 p.m. with the distance medley relay, while field events begin
at 1:30 p.m. with the long jump.
