COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech women's track & field
team heads to Illinois this weekend to compete in the 2011 Ohio
Valley Conference Indoor Championships, hosted by Eastern
Illinois.
Golden Eagle coach Tony Cox is taking a squad of 24
student-athletes to the competition Friday and Saturday, led by
seniors Ashley
Mayhew and Katherine Lynn,
and sophomore Katie Lowery. All three have been among conference
leaders this spring during the indoor season, Mayhew in the weight
throw and shot put, Lynn in the high jump, and Lowery in the pole
vault.
Lynn won the OVC high jump crown at the Outdoor Championsips last
May, while Lowery has twice been named the OVC Female Field Athlete
of the Week this spring.
In addition to that trio, Cox is looking for a high finish from
his distance medley relay foursome, which is going to EIU seeded
fourth. That group includes Traci Jones (1200m),
Emily
Weinzetl (400m), Leah Bradley (800m)
and Rebecca
Cline (mile).
"We're hoping we can get onto the podium in that event," Cox
said.
The action begins Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. Results
will be posted on TTUsports.com when they become available. EIU is
