Lynn wins high jump crown, Golden Eagles tied for fifth at OVC

CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Senior Katherine Lynn has done it again, wearing the gold medal after claiming first place in the high jump at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships being held at Eastern Illinois.

Lynn (photos above and below), who won the OVC Outdoor high jump title, earned 10 points in the team standings with her first-place effort. She was one of four jumpers to accompish 5 feet, 5 inches, but she did it in fewer jumps to be crowned OVC champion.

Her points boosted Tech into a tie for fifth place in the team standings with 16 points. Senior Ashley Mayhew earned three points by finishing sixth in the weight throw, while the distance medley relay team also placed sixth for the team's final three points of the day.

The Eastern Illinois women are in first place with 61.33 points as all eight teams scored points on day one. Eastern Kentucky is second at 33 followed by Southeast Missouri with 28 and Tennessee State in fourth with 23. Tennessee Tech and Austin Peay are tied for fifth with 16 points. Murray State is seventh with 11.3 and Jacksonville State is eighth with 6.3.

Mayhew launched a toss of 50 feet, 11 inches to place sixth in the weight throw.

The other points came in the distance medley relay, where the team of Traci Jones, Emily Weinzetl, Leah Bradley and Rebecca Cline finished sixth in the time of 13:08.80.

Tech had a total of 11 career-best performances during Day One, most of them coming in prelims. The career-best efforts Friday were:

* Madison Borden with a toss of 37 feet, 6.75 inches in the weight throw;
* Brittney Brown with a time of 2:44.79 in the 800m;
* Rebecca Cline's time of 19:53.00 in the 5,000-meter run;
* Dalis Connell with a :29.35 showing at 200m;
* Ifey Eguzo in the 60-meter dash in the time of 8.22 seconds;
* Traci Jones with a time of 2:21.11 at 800m;
* Krysten Joshen posting a time of 8.18 seconds in the 60-meter dash;
* Beth Miller ni the 5,000-meter run in 19:54.58;
* Megan O'Donoghue with a time of 20:29.85 at 5,000-meters;
* Elisa Tanksley in the 60-meter dash in 8.63 seconds;
* Tanklsey had another in the 400m at 1:04.36;
* Emily Williams at 800m in the time of 2:30.07.
