Lowery selected as OVC Track & Field Athlete of the Week

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech sophomore Katie Lowery has been chosen as the Ohio Valey Conference Track & Field Athlete of the Week, following her record-setting performance Saturday at the Sewanee Invitational.

A pole vaulter from Andersonville, Tenn., Lowery broke her own indoor school record and won the event when she cleared the bar at 9 feet, 8 inches. She also owns the school outdoor pole vault record of 10 feet. Her effort earned her the OVC Female Field Athlete of the Week distinction.

Also honored by the league, Zye Boey of Eastern Illinois was named the Male Track Athlete of the Week, Alexis Love of Murray State the Female Track Athlete of the Week, and Brandon Colbert of Southeast Missouri State as the Male Field Athlete of the Week.

In her second season on the Golden Eagle roster under coach Tony Cox, Lowery hails from Anderson County High School where she qualified for the TSSAA state meet all four years and placed second in the state as a junior. She is majoring in nursing.

Lowery has one more indoor meet during the regular season, coming this Saturday at Middle Tennessee. After that the Golden Eagles will compete in the OVC Indoor Championships, February 25-26 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill.
