COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech sophomore Katie Lowery has
been chosen as the Ohio Valey Conference Track & Field Athlete
of the Week, following her record-setting performance Saturday at
the Sewanee Invitational.
A pole vaulter from Andersonville, Tenn., Lowery broke her own
indoor school record and won the event when she cleared the bar at
9 feet, 8 inches. She also owns the school outdoor pole vault
record of 10 feet. Her effort earned her the OVC Female Field
Athlete of the Week distinction.
Also honored by the league, Zye Boey of Eastern Illinois was named
the Male Track Athlete of the Week, Alexis Love of Murray State the
Female Track Athlete of the Week, and Brandon Colbert of Southeast
Missouri State as the Male Field Athlete of the Week.
In her second season on the Golden Eagle roster under coach Tony
Cox, Lowery hails from Anderson County High School where she
qualified for the TSSAA state meet all four years and placed second
in the state as a junior. She is majoring in nursing.
Lowery has one more indoor meet during the regular season, coming
this Saturday at Middle Tennessee. After that the Golden Eagles
will compete in the OVC Indoor Championships, February 25-26 at
Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill.
