Defending OVC Champ Katherine Lynn takes no. 1 in high jump at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Katherine Lynn took the top spot in the high jump as Jenna Philpott beat her personal best in the 800m race and Ifey Eguzo tied her personal best in the 100m dash on Saturday. Eight other Tech runners also made their outdoor debuts at Vanderbilt's Black and Gold meet.

The senior and defending OVC champ Lynn cleared 1.69m to take the no. 1 spot in the high jump, while Eguzo clocked a time of 12:61 seconds in the 100m race to tie her previous record set at TSU last season. 

Junior Emily Weinzetl made her debut in the outdoor 800m race and finished in 11th place with a time of 2:24.10, while Traci Jones finished in 14th place with a 2:25.99. Jenna Philpott beat her personal best of 2:35.64 with a time of 2:31.37 to place 20th. 

Freshman Emily Williams also made her debut appearance in the 800 and 1500m races, finishing in 23rd place with a time of 2:33.28 in the 800 and 21st in the 1500 with a 5:12.33. Jones also ran the 1500, finishing in 16th place with a time of 5:00.23.

Peri Winborne, another freshman making her outdoor campaign, finished first in her heat in the 3000m run with a 10:53.03 to finish 18th overall, followed closely by teammate Rebecca Cline who finished 19th with a time of 11:01.06.

Tech's only hurdler, Brittany Cotto, is another runner to participate in her first outdoor events, finishing first in her heat, 10th overall in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:08.99.

In field events, Madison Borden threw the shot put 37.07" to place 11th overall, and also placed 4th in the disc event with a throw of 130.54". Haley Wennerstrom placed 15th in the javelin throw, missing her personal best by just under two inches with a throw of 82.38".

Five other runners in Brittney Brown, America McCoy, Beth Miller, Meghan O'Donoghue and Elisa Tanksley participated in their first career outdoor events, while Katie Lowery debuted in the javelin throw for the first time. 

The meet was cancelled due to lightening in the area before the women's 200 meter race, the 2000 meter steeplechase and the 4x400 meter relays were started

Tech track and field will next participate in the Jacksonville State Invitational in Alabama on April 2.
