RICHMOND, Ky. – Back-to-back rounds of stellar play by Allyson Dunn helped propelled the Tennessee Tech women's golf team to a third-place ranking after day one of the EKU Colonel Classic Friday evening, while the junior led the entire 83-player field by two strokes.
The Golden Eagles posted rounds of 310 and 306 for a 616, sitting just five strokes back of second-place and host Eastern Kentucky at the University Club at Arlington. Ball State ranked at the top of the 13-team field, recording an overall total of 600 to lead by 11 shots.
Dunn fired off a 1-under 71 in the event's first round, which tied for the low round of the tournament through day one. She came back for the second round to nearly match her effort, compiling and even-par round of 72 for a 143 overall. With just 18 holes to play on Tuesday, she ranked first over Ball State's Sydney Anderson by two shots.
The junior led the entire field with 10 birdies through the first two rounds, three more than the next closer golfer in the tournament. She also ranked first among the participants in par-4 scoring, posting a mark of 2-under.
Senior Whitney Robertson carded back-to-back rounds of 78 to tie for 15th through the first day of play, totaling a score of 156 to rank second among the Golden Eagle participants. Just two strokes back of her teammate, Hollee Sadler tied for 27th overall. The sophomore notched two rounds of 79 for 158.
Next among the Tech starters was senior Lydia Triplett, who finished with a 159 behind rounds of 82 and 77. After shaving five strokes off her first round, Triplett wrapped up the day tied for 30th. Rounding out the Golden Eagle lineup, redshirt freshman Shelby Johnson tallied rounds of 85 and 81 for a 166.
Senior Haley Davidson competed in the event as an individual, flipping the scores of Johnson for a matching 166. She carded a first-round 81 and followed up over the second 18 holes with an 85.
The Golden Eagles will round out play at the University Club at Arlington on Tuesday, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. CT.
