KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team concluded play at the Kiawah Island Classic Tuesday afternoon with an improved day on the links, shaving eight strokes off its second round score to finish 27th among the event's 43 participants and among the top five of the flight championship.
The Golden Eagles shot a 308 Tuesday, joining totals of 307 and 316 for a final tournament score of 932. Tech edged South Alabama by a single stroke and narrowly defeated James Madison and Wofford College by two shots. The finish marked the highest for a Tech squad at the Kiawah Island Classic since 2013 when the Golden Eagles finished 24th.
Leading the Golden Eagles for the second day in-a-row was junior Allyson Dunn, who wrapped up her first action of the spring with a 4-over 76. She tied for 66th overall among the more than 230 participants after finishing with a team-best final line of 80-72-76=228.
Redshirt freshman Arianna Clemmer placed next for the Golden Eagles, carding 73-80-78=231 for the three-day event. The performance fell just one stroke shy of her season-low of 230, set back in October at the Memphis Intercollegiate.
Next among the Tech finishers were veterans Whitney Robertson and Lydia Triplett, tying for 153rd. Robertson tallied a third-round 80 to finish at 239 for the week while Triplett rounded out play with a 76 on Tuesday. Her 239 came via rounds of 74, 89 and the final-round 76.
Hollee Sadler rounded out Tech's participants at the Osprey Point Course at Kiawah Island Golf Course, totaling 80-86-79=245.
Tech will return to action Monday, Mar. 13 when the team heads south to Tampa Bay, Fla. and Lake Jovita Country Club for the Spring Break Shootout. The three-round event will conclude Tuesday Mar. 14.
