MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Round two of the GolfWeek Program Challenge saw the Tennessee Tech women's golf team jump up the leaderboard as the Golden Eagles turned in a seven-stroke improvement from day one with a team score of 304.
Ranked 11th headed into the day, the purple and gold lept two places with the some steady play and timely improvement across the board.
Making her impact felt in her first collegiate event, redshirt freshman Shelby Johnson shaved six strokes off her first-round 80 to finish with a team-low 74 Monday afternoon. She rounded out the day tied for 34th overall with a 154.
Johnson wasn't the only Golden Eagle to enjoy a bounce back performance, as junior Allyson Dunn trimmed nine strokes off her first-round tally to notch a 77 and contribute to Tech's run up the rankings.
Senior Lydia Triplett moved into a tie for the team lead after carding a 76 over her second 18 holes, brining her two-day total to 150 and rank her in a tie for 22nd overall in the field of 80. Fellow senior Whitney Robertson turned in a 77 to also compile a composite score of 150 and move into a tie with her teammate for 22nd.
Sophomore Hollee Sadler rounded out the participant list for the Golden Eagles, cutting four strokes from her first go around the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. She turned in a second-round 80 to finish the first two days of play at 164.
"I am quite proud of the way the women bounced back today," head coach Polk Brown said. "In this game, it's so easy to get down about things, but they did a great job of making today count and I look forward to them finishing things out on another high note tomorrow."
