SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team concluded play at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate at Sevierville Golf Club Tuesday afternoon, finishing in second place among seven teams behind a 297.
The Golden Eagles, who carded 309 and then 300 on Sunday and Monday, shaved three strokes during the final round to finish with a 906 overall for the team's lowest 54 mark of the year. The 297 tied for Tech's lowest round of the 2016-17 season as well.
Lee University captured the overall team title after totaling rounds of 304, 297 and 294 for an 895 overall. Tech's Ohio Valley Conference rival Belmont placed third in the event with a 916.
Backed by a second straight surge of brilliance on the links, Allyson Dunn tied for second overall in the field of 44 golfers, tallying a career-low, 3-under 68. Her performance represented the low round of the tournament and the second lowest round in the history of the Golden Eagle program.
Dunn led the field with 12 birdies during the week and posted on of just three eagles in the entire tournament. She also led all golfers in par-five scoring throughout the 54 holes, tallying a mark of 5-under. Her tournament score of 220 tied her career-low as well.
Junior Whitney Robertson finished second on the Tech squad, ranking seventh overall after carding 80-73-74=227 during the event. Redshirt freshman Arianna Clemmer posted her second straight 80 on Tuesday, adding together with her first-round 72 for a 232.
Ranking next among the Golden Eagles was senior Lydia Triplett, who turned in consistent numbers all week for a 233 to tie for 15th. She tallied rounds of 78, 78 and 77. Sophomore Hollee Sadler rounded out Tech's participants, turning in a 234 for three days of work. Sadler totaled rounds of 80, 76 and 78 while tying for 17th overall.
Competing as individuals were Shelby Johnson, Lindsay Miller and Haley Davidson. A redshirt freshman, Johnson carded an 80-79-81=240, tying for 23rd. Miller ranked 25th with a score of 241 while Davidson completed the week with a 256.
Carson-Newman's Elizabeth England took home individual medalist honors after providing scores of 72, 72 and 75 for a 219 overall.
Tech will return to play on Saturday Apr. 1 at the EKU Colonel Classic, hosted by Eastern Kentucky at the University Club at Arlington.
