Clemmer paces Golden Eagles, ties for first through first round of Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team kicked off action at the fifth annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate Sunday afternoon, playing host to a seven-team field at Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.

The Golden Eagles rounded out the first round of action with a team score of 309, ranking second among its competitors and just five strokes shy of leader Lee University. Tech held an eight-shot lead over Ohio Valley Conference and in-state rival Belmont following day one, and a nine-stroke advantage over Evansville.

Redshirt freshman Arianna Clemmer not only led the Golden Eagles on Sunday, she also tied for the overall tournament lead after firing a career-low, 1-over 72. The rookie shot even par on a whopping 13 holes, tying for the most in the field of 44.

Tying for seventh was senior Lydia Triplett, who carded a 78 and boasted the second-best scoring mark on par-five holes for the first round. Next among Tech's starting five, junior Allyson Dunn finished just outside the top-10, tying for 11th overall. She wrapped up her first 18 holes of competition just one stroke back of Triplett, posting a 79 and connecting for three birdies, the second-most of the day.

Rounding out the Golden Eagle lineup, and tying for 15th, were senior Whitney Robertson and sophomore Hollee Sadler, who matched each other with 80s.

Three Tech golfers participated as individuals and it was sophomore Lindsay Miller who led the pack, tying with Triplett for seventh overall.  She made a 78, while making part on 11 of the 18 holes, to lead all individuals in the field.

Redshirt freshman Shelby Johnson tallied an 80 to tie for 15th while Haley Davidson completed the day with an 86.

Round two of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate is set to begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. CT on Monday. The original tee times were pushed back due to impending frost expected on the course.
