MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The 2016-17 season is officially under way for the Tennessee Tech women's golf team, as the Golden Eagles opened its newest year on the links by combining for a 311 in the first round of the GolfWeek Program Challenge in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Competing at the par-71, 6,042-yard Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, the women's squad rounded out its first 18 holes of the new year by ranking 11th among the 16-team field.

Leading the way for the Golden Eagles was senior veteran Whitney Robertson. The Clarksville, Tenn. native kicked off her final season in the purple and gold by tying for 13th through the first day of play thanks to a 2-over 73.

Fellow senior Lydia Triplett followed her teammate closely, carding a 3-over 74 to tie for 20th in the field of 80. Completing her first career round in collegiate competition, redshirt freshman Shelby Johnson tied for 52nd while posting an 80.

Rounding the scoring on the first day of the GolfWeek Program Challenge were sophomore Hollee Sadler and junior Allyson Dunn, who posted scores of 84 and 86, respectively.

"There's no doubt that our team is raring and ready to get right back after it again tomorrow," head coach Polk Brown said. "There's still two more rounds to go and the women are definitely up to the task of climbing up the rankings and finishing out strong."
