COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team and head coach Jim Davis announced the addition of transfer Kandace Newry to the Golden Eagle family.

"I chose Tennessee Tech because it is much closer to home and my family can attend more of my games," Newry said of her decision to transfer. "My other reasons for choosing TTU are that Tech has my intended major, the women's basketball staff, and getting to play with my old AAU travel basketball teammates T'keyah Williams and Candace Parsons." 

Newry, a 5-foot-11 guard, spent the last two seasons at Binghamton University where she appeared in 30 games last season, including 17 starts. She ranked third on the team in rebounding (4.4 rpg.) and second in assists (2.1 apg.). 

"Kandace will bring a lot of experience to our program," Davis said of the newest addition. "She already has two years of Division I experience and the year of redshirting will provide her with more time to work on her skills. She is an extremely versatile guard who will bring a different dimension to our program."

The Miami, Fla., native went to four different high schools, making strides at each one. During her freshman year, she won a state title at Parkway Academy. The following season at Cardinal Gibbons High School, she was part of a team that won a district and regional title. During her junior season at Monsignor Edward Pace High School, she averaged 16 points, eight rebounds and two assists per contest. In her final high school season, she averaged 8.2 points, 13.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 3.3 steals and 5.0 blocks per game at Dr. Michael M. Krop High School.

Newry will not be eligible to play this year and will have to redshirt due to NCAA transfer rules. She will have two years of eligibility left starting in the 2015-16 season.
