Golden Eagles head south to Jacksonville State

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team is set to head to Jacksonville State on Saturday at 5 p.m. CST.

If fans cannot make the game, it will be available on the OVC Digital Network, and on the radio on 106.1 FM The Eagle.

SETTING THE STAGE
This marks the 24th meeting between the Golden Eagles and the Gamecocks. Tech holds a 17-6 advantage, however the Gamecocks are on a three-game winning streak after topping TTU in Cookeville just a week ago, 70-54.

So far this season, the Gamecocks are one of just three teams in the OVC with a winning record on the season, at 16-8.

JSU is led by the duo of Destany McLin and Candace Morton. McLin leads the way with 12.3 points per game, while grabbing a team-high 7.1 rebounds as well. Morton follows with 12 points and 3.9 rebounds. She has also attempted a team-high 117 free throws on the season, connecting on 91.

The Gamecocks are looking to rebound from a 55-52 overtime loss at home to Belmont. Tyler Phelion scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the second half and the five minute extra session. Outside of Phelion, only Morton finished in double figures as she had 11. The Gamecocks shot a season-low 23.2 percent from the field, which included 18.9 percent during the first half and 10 percent (1 of 10) during overtime.

The Golden Eagles will be looking to find some wins as the season winds down. The Tech squad fell to Tennessee State on Thursday's night, 66-57. Candace Parson finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds, while Samaria Howard netted 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds.Tennessee State, which has now won three in a row, was led by Chelsea Hudson's 15 points and eight rebounds, while Brianna Lawrence added 13 and six.

Howard and Parson are leading the Golden Eagles this season. Howard is averaging a team-high 14.4 points and 5.7 rebounds. Parson is averaging 11 points, and a team-high 6.1 rebounds.
