COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team heads to the University of Southern Mississippi (5-1) for the first game of the second road stretch of the season.
The Golden Eagles are looking to find the right path following a four-game skid. In the last outing, TTU took on No. 22 Georgia in the Golden Eagles home opener in the Eblen Center.
The ranked Bulldogs came in and took the victory, 74-51. They saw four different player score in double figures, led by Shacobia Barbee who had 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Tech was led by Samaria Howard who scored 14 points, and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Junior Mariah Dean added 12 points and seven rebounds.

SETTING THE STAGE
The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles head to Sothern Miss to take on the Golden Eagles that call Hattiesburg, Miss., home. These two squads have matched up four times prior, splitting the series 2-2. However, the last time they met was in 1987. However, despite playing four times, this is the first time Tech will travel to Hattiesburg for a game.
Southern Miss, a Conference USA member, finished the 2013-14 season with a 27-7 record, and have started 2014-15 as hot, opening with a 5-1 record. USM's leading scorer, Tamara Jones, comes off the bench averaging 12.8 points and 5.8 rebounds. Jerontay Clemons follows with 11.8 points, while Kierra Jordan is putting up 10.3 points.
Tech is led by Howard who is averaging 14.8 points and 4.8 rebounds. Sophomore Hannah Goolsby is the team leader in minutes, and is averaging 9.2 points.
Tech is averaging 62.8 point per contest, while USM is allowing just 54.2.
