Junior guard earns third weekly award

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – For the third time this season, Tennessee Tech women's basketball junior Samaria Howard the adidas® OVC Newcomer of the Week, as voted on by the Sports Information Directors.

The Florida State College at Jacksonville transfer earned her third honor following back-to-back outstanding offensive performances. Howard tied a career-high with 28 points while grabbing 13 rebounds for her team-best fourth double-double of the year. She started the week with a game-best 21 points versus Belmont. Over the two games, Howard connected on an impressive 19 of 22 from the free throw line.

Howard shared the Newcomer of the Week award with Eastern Kentucky's Shameekia Murry. Eastern Illinois' Sabina Oroszova was named Player of the Week, while Murray State's Ke'Shunan James was named Freshman of the Week.

The Golden Eagles will wrap up the 2014-15 season at EKU on Saturday in Richmond, Ky., with a 3 p.m. CST tip.
