COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Making a splash in her first game in the Tennessee Tech jersey, junior Samaria Howard did not go unnoticed as she earned her first Ohio Valley Conference honor. She was named the adidas® OVC Newcomer of the Week, as voted on by the Sports Information Directors.
The Florida State College at Jacksonville transfer led the Golden Eagles past Florida International to open up the 2014 campaign. Howard, a five-foot-seven guard, hit seven of her 11 shots from the field while going 3-of-4 from the line for 17 points in the game. She also added three steals and an assist, while playing just 20 minutes in the contest.
The Golden Eagles continue their adventures on the road as they head to Winston-Salem, N.C. for a 6 p.m. CT showdown Tuesday with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
Morehead State took home the other two weekly awards as senior Alemsha Jones snagged the adidas® OVC Player of the Week, and Eriel McKee took home adidas® OVC freshman of the Week.
