Tech adds local product Brittany Cooper

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team and head coach Jim Davis have announced the addition of 5-foot-10 forward Brittany Cooper, a Clarkrange, Tenn., native.

"I'm really excited," Cooper said. "It's an awesome opportunity, especially to go to a school like Tennessee Tech. I just can't wait to go down there and play at the next level."

Cooper averaged 13 points and six rebounds this past season and helped Clarkrange High to the TSSAA Class A state championship game. She also was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association all-state team, she was named the District 7-A most valuable player, she earned a spot on the TSSAA state all-tournament team, and was named the Herald-Citizen All-Upper Cumberland co-player of the year.

"Brittany is a stretch-four," said head coach Jim Davis. "She has really good back-to-the-basket moves. She can take you inside and post you and score in the paint. At the same time, she can pull the big girl away from the basket and drain the three as well. "It's always an adjustment coming from high school to college, just simply because of the speed of the game, but I expect Brittany to have an immediate impact on our program, we expect her to play. She is a very determined young lady and confident. She expects to come in and play, and that is half the battle."

"When you play at Clarkrange, you know about the traditions there," Cooper said. "Tech is a great opportunity and has a lot of tradition, too. And, at the end of the day, I had about eight offers to choose from. The fact that Tech was close to home, my family and my team could come see me play. It was just the best choice."

Cooper is one of five new faces Tech fans will be able to see play next season for the Golden Eagles.
