Tech hits the road for seventh road contest of young season

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech women's basketball team hits the road for its seventh road game of the young season. The Golden Eagles will face Georgia State in a midafternoon game on Saturday in Atlanta.

The Golden Eagles are looking to rebound from a cold stretch to open the season. Tech will be fresh following a seven-day period between games.

The last time out, Tech fell at Clemson, 76-61. Sophomore Catherine Taylor led the way with a career-high 13 points. Senior Candace Parson and freshman Yaktavia "Shug" Hickson each added 12.

With an opportunity to take the lead with 5:48 left in the game, Tech missed the chance, and Clemson responded with 15-4 run to close the game.

SETTING THE STAGE
Tech is facing its third Georgia opponent in Georgia State, having previously lost at Mercer, 73-67, and losing at home to nationally-ranked Georgia, 74-51.

History favors TTU in this match-up, as Tech has a 3-0 advantage all-time. The two schools met in 1987-88, 1988-89, and 1989-90, with the Golden Eagles taking home the 'W' each time.

Georgia State enters the weekend game with a 3-3 record, but are currently on a three-game skid. Most recently the Panthers took on another Ohio Valley Conference opponent in Morehead State, losing 74-72 to the Eagles.

The Panthers are led by senior guard Kayla Nolan who is averaging 13.7 points and 5.7 rebounds. GSU has two other players averaging double digits. Senior guard Alisha Andrews is averaging 11 points, while freshman guard Makeba Ponder is averaging 10.

Tech is also led by three guards. Junior Samaria Howard is averaging 14 points, while sophomore Hannah Goolsby is putting up 9.1. Following is freshman Yaktavia "Shug" Hickson who is averaging 8.7.
