TUNICA, Miss. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team completed round one of action at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Sunday afternoon, producing a score of 335 in its first trip around the Tunica National Golf Course.
The purple and gold ended the opening round at the league's annual event eighth among the nine competing teams. Little Rock paced the field with a score of 302, owning a nine-stroke lead over Morehead State. The Trojans' Anna Dawson led all individuals with an even-par 72.
For the Golden Eagles, both sophomore Kaydi Rhodes and senior Gittle Sciolis led the way by tying for 24th among the 44 golfers in the field. Each posted scores of 83, with Rhodes tallying a pair of birdies in her round. Sciolis also accounted for a pair of birdies in her first trek around the course.
Sitting one shot back of her teammates, senior Ainsley Simms carded an 84 to tie for 29th overall. The veteran recorded one birdie and 10 pars during the day.
Tying for 34th just one stroke behind Simms was rookie Chloe Griffith. The freshman turned in an 85 for her first round at the OVC Championships, securing one birdie along the way. Fellow freshman Lexus Julian rounded out Tech's lineup, collecting one birdie on her way to an 88.
Round two of the OVC Championships will see the Golden Eagles open the day with tee times starting at 8:00 a.m. CT.
