OWENS CROSSROADS, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech women's golf team wrapped up action at the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate Wednesday afternoon, placing sixth among the 16 teams competing at the Highlands Course at the Robert Trent Jones Trail at Hampton Cove.
The Golden Eagles ended the three-day event with a score of 303 for round three and a 912 for the tournament. Tech fell just three shots back of third-place Oakland. Lipscomb ran away from the field, topping Troy for the title by 28 shots. The Bisons' Lauren Thompson led all individuals wire-to-wire, claiming medalist honors with a 67-74-71=212.
The purple and gold's Ainsley Simms just missed out on an All-Tournament nod, placing sixth in the field of 83 with a three-day total of 222. The senior birdied three holes while accounting for 10 pars on her way to a 76 on Wednesday.
Second among the Tech participants was rookie Chloe Griffith, tying for 18th with a 228. Turning in two birdies and 11 pars, the freshman shot a 77. Shooting up the leaderboard after two birdies and 12 pars for a 75, senior Gittle Sciolis tied for 26th overall with a composite of 232.
Junior Reagan Stuke put a capper on the scoring for the Golden Eagles, registering a 75 of her own thanks to 10 pars, a birdie, and an eagle on the par-5 ninth. She tied for 45th behind a three-day total of 237. Kaydi Rhodes rounded out Tech's lineup with an eagle on the par-5 ninth and an 85 on the day, completing the event with a 240 to tie for 50th.
Tech will get the week off from the links, competing next in Sevierville, Tenn. The Golden Eagles will play host to the 11th annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate at Sevierville Golf Club from Sunday, Mar. 17 to Tuesday, Mar. 19.
