Golden Eagles show improvement on day two of Golfweek/AJT Intercollegiate

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – Tuesday was a day of improvement for the Tennessee Tech women's golf team, as the Golden Eagles shaved nine strokes from Monday's first round of the Golfweek/AJT Intercollegiate for a better showing in their second trip around the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawley's Island, S.C.

The purple and gold rounded out the day 16th in the 19-team field, maintaining its position with a score of 304 for a two-day total of 617. High Point took over the top spot on the leaderboard behind a strong score of 284, totaling 574 for a three-stroke lead of FGCU. Coastal Carolina's Hannah Karg moved to the top of the individual standings, posting a 139 through two days.

Pacing the Golden Eagles after two rounds of action was Chloe Griffith, delivering a 75 on the day with one birdie and 12 pars. The freshman tied for 57th with a composite score of 153. Sitting one stroke back was freshman Lexus Julian, whose 154 came with an impressive showing of 75 on Tuesday. The Cookeville native carded two birdies on her way to a tie for 62nd.

A pair of the Cookeville crew tied for 68th at the end of the day, led by sophomore Kaydi Rhodes and her round of 76. Rhodes racked up a pair of birdies while running her total up to 155 for the two rounds. Senior Ainsley Simms also presented a 155 after round two, snagging a birdie as part of a 78. 

Fifth-year senior Gittle Sciolis rounded out her second day of play with an 81 and a birdie, tying for 89th with a two-day total of 160. Matching her output of 160 and tying for 89th was sophomore Sydney Branson. Competing as an individual, the youngster compiled a team-high three birdies on the day to complete a 79. 

The third and final round of the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate will commence Wednesday morning with a 7:30 a.m. CT shotgun start.
