Tech women add Chattanooga transfer Anna Walker

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech women's basketball head coach Kim Rosamond announced the signing of 6-1 forward Anna Walker for the 2021-22 season.  Walker, a native of Cleveland, Tenn,, comes to Cookeville as a transfer after spending her freshman season at Chattanooga.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Anna to our team," expressed Rosamond. "She brings a winner's mentality and a relentless work ethic that will be invaluable in helping us compete for championships. Her size, versatility and ability to affect the game on both ends of the floor will be a huge asset to our team."

A highly-decorated recruit from the state of Tennessee, Walker enjoyed a championship prep career at Bradley Central High School, one of the premier high school programs in the state. She helped lead Coach Jason Reuter's teams to three appearances in the TSSAA Girls State Tournament. As a junior, she was named to the TSSAA All-State Tournament Team en route to guiding the Bearettes to the 2019 AAA state championship.

"Anna has really good length and athleticism to go along with high skill and basketball IQ. She is able to create off the dribble, score on the block, and also knock down the 3 ball. She has a knack for rebounding the basketball and the potential to be a really good defender in our league," added Rosamond. "Beyond her talent, Anna brings championship DNA. She comes not only from an elite high school program but also from a family of servant leaders. She is truly one of those players who has a way of just lifting others up and making those around her better."

Walker is no stranger to the purple and gold. Her uncle, Brad Walker, was a member of the Golden Eagle men's basketball team under coach Jeff Lebo from 1998-2001. Her parents, as well other family members, are also proud graduates of TTU.

"Obviously, talent is important to the success of any team, but finding student-athletes that possess the core values we want to exemplify on the floor, in the classroom and in the community is equally important," Rosamond explained. "Anna not only shines on the court, but she is a young woman who possesses the character and leadership qualities we desire in our program."

Anna is the daughter of Bart and Julie Walker. She is the oldest of five siblings that include her sister Abby, brother Alex and twin brothers Andrew and Austin.

During her freshman season at UTC, Walker had several big games, including a last-second 65-64 win over OVC foe Austin Peay. Walker capped the win with 13 points and four rebounds as well as burying a last-second game-winning layup to take down the Governors on the road.

Walker will join incoming freshmen signees Reagan Hurst (Upperman HS), Olivia Koontz (Signal Mountain HS) and Harley Paynter (Boyd County, KY) as new faces on the Golden Eagle roster for next season.
