Anna Jones named OVC Newcomer of the Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Junior guard/forward Anna Jones had a tremendous week for the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team in the Golden Eagles' victories over Austin Peay and Murray State.

The Ohio Valley Conference's sports information contacts agreed, unanimously selecting Jones as this week's OVC Newcomer of the Week, the second time this season she has received the award.

The Middle Tennessee transfer from Jackson finished with 32 points for the week, averaging 16 per game, while also bringing down 11 rebounds, a 5.5-carom average. From the field, she shot 11-for-18 (.611) and was 8-for-10 from the charity stripe. She also collected two assists and two steals.

She led Tech in scoring at Murray State with 17 points as she went 7-for-12, including 2-for-3 on 3-pointers, with seven rebounds against the Racers. Against Austin Peay, she had 15 points on a 4-for-6 night, including 7-of-9 at the stripe.

UT Martin's Chelsey Perry won the league's Player of the Week after averaging 25 points, 9.5 rebounds, four blocks, 3.5 assists and two steals per game last week with wins over Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State. Belmont's Destinee Wells and Murray State's Katelyn Young split the conference's Freshman of the Week honor.

The Golden Eagles return home on Thursday to take on Eastern Kentucky. Tipoff at the Eblen Center is set for 5 p.m.
