Tech women look to continue recent success as Morehead State visits Saturday

GAME NOTES: Game 14 -- vs. Morehead State (PDF)

By Thomas Corhern, TTU Sports Information

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Since Morehead State last played Tennessee Tech in the opening week of the 2021 year, the Eagles experienced some lows as well as some highs, breaking a three-game losing streak with a three-game winning streak to balance things out.

After a decisive loss to Ohio Valley Conference front-runner UT Martin last Saturday, MSU was idle on Thursday as its game against Jacksonville State was postponed. But Morehead State will come into the Hooper Eblen Center ready to take on Tennessee Tech to try to break up the Golden Eagles' recent run of success of four wins in the last five games.

Tipoff for the game on Saturday is at 4 p.m., the second game of the doubleheader. Roger Ealey will provide the radio call on 106.1 The Eagle, while Dylan Vazzano and Michael Cooper will handle the coverage duties on ESPN+ (subscription required).

The Golden Eagles are 61-30 all-time against Morehead State, but the visiting Eagles have won 11 of the last 14 games in the series. Tech head coach Kim Rosamond is reversing the trend, but is 3-for-7 against MSU.

It was a close game the last time the two teams met as Tech answered back every time Morehead State went on a run, but wasn't able to hit a last-second shot to send the game into overtime with the host Eagles going away with a 65-62 victory.

Ole Miss transfer Gabby Crawford ended the game with 17 points and 18 rebounds to lead Morehead State, with Ellie Johnson adding 13, Lauren Carter 11 and Ariel Kirkwood 10. Tech had three double-digit scorers with Kesha Brady leading with 16, Jada Guinn scoring a career-high 14 and Anna Jones with 10.

Kirkwood continues to Morehead State's leading scorer with 11.5 points per game and 7.7 rebounds per game, while Crawford is close behind with an 11.1-point average while collecting a team-high 8.7 ricochets per night.

As a team, Morehead (5-9, 4-5 OVC) is averaging 60.3 points a game, while allowing 65.3. The Eagles are shooting .356 from the field. .265 from 3-point range and .734 from the free-throw line.

Tech, on the other hand, has three double-digit scorers, led by Brady with 13.8 points per game, while Jones and Mackenzie Coleman are posting identical 11.8 point-per-game averages. Jones, the reigning OVC Newcomer of the Week, is averaging a team-high 6.4 rebounds a game, while Coleman and Guinn are collecting six caroms a night.

The Golden Eagles are averaging 69.1 points a game and allowing 63.7 to opponents. From the field, Tech is shooting .425, .297 from 3-point range and .760 at the line.
