Tech women hit the road to SEMO on Thursday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – It's an important week for the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team as the Golden Eagles hit the road to Cape Girardeau to take on Southeast Missouri on Thursday, then Tech heads to UT Martin for its lone contest against the league-leading Skyhawks this season.

Tipoff from the Show Me Center is slated for 5 p.m. on Thursday. Dylan Vazzano will provide the call on 106.1 The Eagle, while the game will also be broadcast on ESPN+ (subscription required).

Tech (9-5, 7-4 Ohio Valley Conference) has won five of the last six games and currently stands tied with SEMO (9-7, 7-4 OVC) in fourth place in the league standings. UT Martin (11-3, 10-1 OVC), Belmont (8-4, 5-2 OVC) and Austin Peay (9-5, 7-3 OVC) currently hold the top three spots.

The last time the two teams squared off back on December 30, the two teams kept pace for the first half, but the Redhawks pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Golden Eagles 19-12, then extended the lead in the fourth, even with both teams scoring more than 20 points in the final 10 minutes. SEMO won the contest 79-70.

Tesia Thompson, who leads SEMO in scoring with an 18.6-point average, led the Redhawks with 21 points and 16 rebounds in the contest. Sophie Bussard added 15 points, Roshala Scott 13 and Taelour Pruitt 11.

Tech had five double-digit scorers in the contest as Jordan Brock led the way with 15 points, while Mackenzie Coleman and Anna Jones each had 13. Maaliya Owens chipped in with 11 and Kesha Brady added 10.

Latrese Saine leads SEMO in rebounding, collecting 9.3 boards a game, while Roshala Scott leads the team in assists with 3.5 a night.

As a team, SEMO is averaging 64.8 points per game, while allowing 59.4 to its opponents. From the field, the team is shooting .407 from the field, .318 from beyond the arc and .720 from the free-throw line.

The Golden Eagles, meanwhile, are averaging 68.3 points per game and allowing 62.6. From the field, Tech is shooting .424, .302 from long range and .749 from the charity stripe.

Brady leads the team in scoring average with 13.7, while Jones, the reigning OVC Newcomer of the Week for the second-straight week, leads the team in rebounding with 6.8 boards a night. Jada Guinn leads the team in assists with 50 on the year.

In the last five games, Jones is leading the team In scoring with 13.6 points, while Brady and Coleman are averaging 12 points with Coleman leading the way with 7.6 rebounds a night.

In the all-time series, Tech leads the series 32-26, but SEMO has won eight of the last 10 meetings.
