Tech turns in top-10 finish at Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team finished up the third and final round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon, putting a cap on the team's own tournament at Sevierville Golf Club.

The Golden Eagles ended the event eighth among the 14 teams vying for the tournament title on the River Course, turning in a 310 for a 904 total. Carson-Newman claimed the top spot on the leaderboard, finishing with a 291 for a 7-under 857.

North Georgia's Will Chambless, who competed as an individual, tied the tournament record with a 13-under 203 to take home medalist honors. 

For the purple and gold, it was rookie Anders Larson paving the way with a final score of 218. The freshman carded a 77 on the final day with a trio of birdies to tie for ninth among the 90 golfers in the field.

Competing as an individual, Sean Anderson secured a top-20 showing with a 222 thanks to two birdies and a third-round total of 76. Tying for 26th was Jackson Skeen, who registered a pair of birdies for a 77 and composite of 224.

Next among Tech's competitors was Chance Taylor, who tied for 32nd while competing as an individual. The senior scored a 76 behind a pair of birdies for a 225. Locking down a 76 on the day with four birdies was freshman Haden Maxwell, tying for 55th with a 230 final.

Tying for 59th, Bryce Beeler recorded an 80 with 10 pars, tying for 59th with a three-day total of 232. Next among the Tech lineup was Mark McDearman, scoring a 241 behind a round of 85 and one birdie. Rounding out the Golden Eagle group while competing as an individual was Alexander Bassel, tying for 76th with an 86 and 244.

Next on the docket for the Golden Eagles is South Alabama's Craft Farms Intercollegiate in Gulf Shores, Ala. Tech will compete Sunday, Mar. 26 through Tuesday, Mar. 28 at the Cotton Creek Course at Craft Farms Golf Club
