Free event Saturday includes Women's Clinic,
Kid's Zone, surplus sale, picnic and scrimmage
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A couple of new features will be
available Saturday when Tennessee Tech hosts the annual Gathering
of Eagles -- a Women's Clinic, Kid's Zone and Surplus Sale have all
been added to the schedule, which also includes a free picnic for
Golden Eagle football fans and the team's second scrimmage of fall
camp.
The activities are centered around the Golden Eagle football
team's second scrimmage of fall camp. The scrimmage gets underway
at 1 p.m. in Tucker Stadium.
Leading up to the scrimmage, Tech is hosting a handful of
additional activities all geared toward fans, young and old, male
and female.
From 10 a.m. until noon, the Athletics Dept. will hold a Surplus
Sale, where fans can purchase game worn jerseys and other Golden
Eagle equipment while supplies last. The Surplus Sale will take
place under the large white TTU tent in the 98.5 Kiss FM Tailgate
Park, just west of Tucker Stadium.
Also from 10 a.m. until noon, activities will be available in a
Kid's Zone, similar to the tailgate area fans find in the Tailgate
Park prior to every Golden Eagle home game.
Beginnng at 10:30 a.m., head coach Watson Brown will host Tech's
first Women's Football Clinic, a one-hour session which will
include a question-and-answer format, equipment demonstration and
talk by the veteran coach. The women's clinic is free and each
participant will receive a specially-desiged t-shirt of the
occasion, but space is limited to the first 100 women who sign up
by calling (931) 372-3940. The clinic will be held in the team
meeting room, located in the lower level of the West Stadium, just
across the street from the Tailgate Park.
Starting at 12 noon inside the stadium, all fans are invited to join Tech Athletics officials at a picnic including free food and Pepsi products, football posters and schedule cards and other assorted souvenirs.
The Golden Eagle football team will kick off its final fall
scrimmage at 1 p.m.
Following the scrimmage, every member of the football team will
sign posters and meet with fans at tables set up on the track on
the East side of the stadium.
The Gathering of Eagles is the largest preseason event on tap as the team gears up for its season opener against Cumberland University in Tucker Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 29.
The team enters its seventh season under Brown's direction, and promises to bring plenty of action into the 2013 season as they bid for their second Ohio Valley Conference championship in three years.
The Golden Eagles will host six home football games during the 2013 season, opening against Cumberland on Thursday, Aug. 29. After that, Tech will welcome Tennessee State on Saturday, Sept. 21, Indiana State on Saturday, Sept. 28, UT Martin on Thursday, Oct. 10, Jacksonville State for Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 26, and Austin Peay on Saturday, Nov. 23.
