COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech quarterback Darian Stone has
been chosen as the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the
Week by College Sports Madness, recognizing the role he played in
the 41-16 Golden Eagle victory at Southeast Missouri Saturday
afternoon.
Stone, a junior from Clinton, Tenn., rushed for 162 yards and
three touchdowns and passed for another 135 yards to direct a
rejuvenated Tech offense in posting the team's first OVC win of the
year. Stone had 29 carries for a season-best 162 yards, and scored
on runs of two, four and three yards. He was 13-for-22 for 135
passing yards, accounting for 297 yards of total offense. Behind
Stone, Tech rushed for 257 yards against the Redhawks and scored
five touchdowns on the ground.
Despite bouncing in-and-out of the lineup all season due to a
variety of injuries, Stone now leads Tech in rushing with 370 yards
on 119 carries, and his six rushing touchdowns also tops the Golden
Eagles. He has thrown for 890 yards and completed 52.8 percent of
his attempts with four touchdowns.
Stone's leadership allowed coach Watson Brown and his brother,
Mack, to tie the record for most Division I coaching wins by
brothers in NCAA history with 362. Later in the evening, the pair
broke the record when the Longhorns downed West Virginia in
overtime, giving them 363 victories.
