COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- It was a smashing success last year when it
was introduced. On Thursday night, it could be even bigger and
better when Tennessee Tech hosts Golden Eagle Blackout II in Tucker
Stadium.
The team will wear the black uniforms that were first introduced a
year ago at the Golden Eagle Blackout. Fans are encouraged to wear
black, as well.
And, the first 2,500 fans will receive a free, specially designed
Golden Eagle Blackout II tee shirt.
"The T-shirts last year were the most popular we have ever done,"
said Mark Wilson, Director of Athletics. "I have seen people
wearing the Golden Eagle Blackout shirts all over town all year
long. We're hoping this year's shirt will be just as well-received,
and fans will really get on board and rally behind the football
team with this event."
While the team will be wearing black, Golden Eagle fans are asked
to wear black to the stadium for a complete "blackout" experience
when Tech hosts UT Martin Thursday night (Oct. 10). Kickoff is at 7
p.m. and the 98.5 Kiss FM Tailgate Park opens at 4 p.m.
As part of the event, Tech is providing a free, specially-designed
"Golden Eagle Blackout II" tee shirt to the first 2,500 fans as
they enter the stadium. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and shirts will
be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at all gates
into the stadium.
The Golden Eagle Blackout was an event that the team asked for,
according to Wilson.
"Our colors are purple and gold, and we had never worn a black
uniform, but it was something the team asked to do two years ago,"
Wilson said. "We're asking everyone to come to the game dressed in
black and help make it a unique experience and give us a home field
advantage with a large, enthusiastic crowd and a great atmosphere
for our players."
