COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech women’s basketball coach Sytia Messer has announced the signing of 5’-10” guard Christina Caddy, an Oklahoma high school player with one season at Barton (Kan.) Community College.

Caddy is Messer’s second signee for 2011, joining November addition T’Keyah Williams from Dillard High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

“Christina brings a lot of athleticism to our program,” Messer said. “She is a versatile player and will play at the wing and as a post.”

“I wanted to move up to a Division I team,” Caddy said. “I liked everything about the team and the campus, and the progress they made over the last two years.”

When asked about her new head coach, Caddy said she is looking forward to the experience learning and playing under Messer.

“My first impression of coach Messer was that she was really nice, but you could tell that she really wants to win and takes a lot of pride in her team,” Caddy said.

A four-time letterwinner out of Lawton (Okla.) High School, Caddy helped her squad to two regional championships. She also earned three letters in volleyball and three in track and field competing, in the 400m, 4x400 relay, 4x100 relay, 200m dash and the high jump.

After graduation, Caddy attended Barton Community College for one season where she averaged 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game, en route to being named second-team all-conference.

“Christina is a seasoned player who is quick off the dribble,” Messer said. “We are excited about her ability to rebound and to get to the rim.”

Both of Caddy’s parents are on active duty in the US Army, stationed at Ft. Sill, (Okla). She is the daughter of SGM Robert and SFC Stephanie Caddy.
