TTU women’s basketball to unveil 2010-11 championship banner

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- A Tennessee Tech tradition makes its way back to Eblen Center Monday night as the women’s basketball team will celebrate its 2011 conference title with the unveiling of its 2010-11 Ohio Valley Conference championship banner.

"We're excited to have our banner revealed to start the season on Monday," head coach Sytia Messer said. "There will definitely be some emotions because the players know how hard they had to work to get that championship."

“This latest banner is a permanent recognition of another championship in the long and successful history of Tennessee Tech women’s basketball,” said Mark Wilson, Director of Athletics. “We are all proud of coach Messer and her team, and of the entire history and rich tradition of women’s basketball at Tennessee Tech.”

The conference championship marks the 16th time the Golden Eagles have won the OVC championship, with the last time coming in the 2005-06 season. The 16 total championships won by TTU are the most by any current or former OVC school.

TTU finished its season with a 23-8 record and a 15-3 conference record, en route to its fourth appearance in the WNIT.

The Golden Eagles host Bryan College Monday night in an exhibition contest, with the opening tip set for 7 p.m. The banner will be unveiled and the team will be presented with the OVC championship trophy just before the starting lineup introductions.
