CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech track and field team finished the opening day of the 2014-15 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships in Clarksville, Tenn., on the campus of Austin Peay State University.
A handful of personal records highlight the first day.
Junior Tiara Hymon continued her improvement as she has best herself in almost every meet this season. The Memphis, Tenn., native, led the Golden Eagles in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes with personal bests. In the shorter of the two, Hymon ran a time of 12.27, while in the 200-meter, she crossed the finish line in a time of 25.39.
Sophomore Brittany McGee and freshman Kayla Turange followed suite, each running personal bests in both races. McGee ran 12.68 in the 100-meter, while finishing the 200-meter in 26.14. Turange followed with a time of 12.86 in the shorter race, while crossing in a time of 26.62 in the 200. Junior Atlanta Westbrook also ran the 200-meter race, finishing in a time of 26.28.
In the 400-meter race, senior Brooklyn Kimball (photo above) finished in 10th with a time of 58.73, just missing the top-seven, who qualify for the finals on Saturday.
Freshman Madison Stremler and Priscah Jemeli finished the 800-meter race. Stremler crossed in a time of 2:17.91, while Jemeli crossed in a time of 2:21.73, which was a new personal best.
The lone field event for the Golden Eagles was the discus, where Tech had three competitors. Senior Ashley Lowe led the way with a mark of 113-03. Sophomores Jaelyn Todd and Makayla Kington finished with marks of 109-06 and 95-04, respectively.
The Golden Eagles will continue on Saturday with events beginning at 11 a.m. CT.
