COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech track & field team will focus on local events in 2015 under first-year coach Wayne Angel, with nearly every regular season meet in either Tennessee or Alabama. The indoor season gets underway January 9 in Birmingham, while the outdoor slate begins March 20 in Tuscaloosa.

The team will run in one event in Alabama and four in Tennessee during the indoor season, leading up to the OVC Championships at Eastern Illinois, Feb. 27-28, in only indoor action outside of those two states. During the outdoor regular season, Tech competes three times in Tennessee, twice in Alabama and once i Georgia. The OVC Outdoor Championships are May 15-16 at Austin Peay.

"We are very excited about our 2015 track and field schedule," said Angel. "It  will provide everything we need in terms of D1 competition and proximity from Tennessee Tech. The schedule will provide different levels of competition that will meet
the different levels of ability and talents of our athletes."

The meets are all within a few hours of Cookeville, Angel pointed out.

"The meets are also close enough that our fans can come and support us as we prepare for our conference championships," Angel said. "It should be an exciting season."

Angel's team will open the season at the UAB Blazer Invitational on January 9, and one week later ventures to Johnson City, Tenn., to compete in the two-day, Niswonger Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State, Jan. 16-17. The Golden Eagles wrap up January with a visit to Nashville for the Vanderbilt Invitational, Jan. 23-24.

February opens with a return trip to the Music City, where Tech runs in the Tennessee State Invitational inside the Gentry Center, Feb. 1. The following week, Tech returns to Johnson City for the ETSU Invitational, Feb. 6-7. The OVC Indoor Championships will be held at Eastern Illinois University, Feb. 27-28.

The outdoor season opens with three consecutive events being hosted by Southeastern Conference schools. Three weeks after closing the indoor season, the outdoor slate opens at the Alabama Relays, March 20-21 in Tuscaloosa at the University of Alabama. Tech competes in the Vanderbilt Invitational, March 27-28, then qualifying individuals will head to the University of Tennessee for the Sea Ray Relays, April 10-11. Next is a trip to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational, April 18, and four days later the team heads to Clarksville, Tenn., for the Battle on the Cumberland, hosted by Austin Peay, April 21.

Angel will take qualifying individuals to the Auburn Track Classic on May 4 then spends two weeks prepping for the OVC Outdoor Championships, May 15-16 at Austin Peay.
