A weekend of personal-bests was highlighed by school record at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. – The weekend was full of personal bests for the Tennessee Tech track and field team as they competed at the 2015 Arkansas State Red Wolf open on Friday and Saturday.

And one of those personal bests just happened to be from the school-record holder in the triple jump. Junior Atlanta Westbrook, who set the triple jump record with a distance of 37-08.5 in 2014, bested her own mark by 4.75 inches, with a mark of 38-01.25 to finish sixth overall.

Westbrook also ran a career-best in the 100m-dash with a time of 12.83. Teammates Brittany McGee and Kayla Turange also ran career-bests in the 100m-dash.  McGee finished in a time of 12.86, and Turange followed in 12.99.

In the 200m-race, junior Tiara Hymon, senior Brooklyn Kimball, and McGee each picked up new PR's. Hymon finished in 10th place with a time of 25.88, Kimball followed with a time of 26.35, and McGee rounded it out with a time of 26.55. Turange also ran the 200m-race, and finished in a time of 27.25.

Freshman Madison Stremler finished seventh in the 800m-run with a time of 2:20.98. Fellow freshman Priscah Jemeli followed with a career-best 2:22.54. Junior Landry Loving came in with a time of 2:39.15.

In the 1500m-run, freshman Kathie O'Neill crossed in a career-best time of 5:19.37. Fellow freshman Sonel Bezuindenhout finished in a time of 5:21.04.  In the 5,000m-run, freshman Lera McNamara finished in a career-best 20:17.55.

Tech's throwing crew also had a successful day off the track. Sophomore Jaelyn Todd recorded two personal records over the weekend. In the hammer throw, Todd hit a mark of 110-03 and in the discus she hit a distance of 123-04. Freshman Bethany Parker also tallied two career-highs. Parker threw for a distance of 102-04 in the hammer throw, while in the shot put she hit a distance of 30-08.5.

Sophomore Makayla Kington competed in three different throwing events. She hit a career-best 113-04 in the discus, while hitting a mark of 33-07.27 in the shot put. She also competed in the javelin, recording a distance of 69-00.

The Golden Eagles saw Westbrook, Hymon, Jemeli, and Kimbal combine for a time of 4:05.69 in the 4x400m-relay.
