BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – It was a weekend for personal best marks
for the Tennessee Tech women's track & field team as they
opened the season at the UAB Blazer Indoor Invitational.
Returning members of the squad set four new personal-best marks,
while numerous newcomers and returnees established personal-best
standards while running events for the first time in their
careers.
Brooklyn Kimball was the lone runner with a personal-best that topped her previous time, running a 27.10 in the 200-meter dash.
The other marks came in field events, with one in the triple
jump and two in throwing events. Atlanta
Westbrook established a new PR in the triple jump with a leap
of 36 feet, one inch. In the shot put, Makayla
Kington had a PR with a toss of 35 feet, six inches, and in the
weight throw it was Jaelyn Todd with
a PR heave of 32 feet, six inches.
True freshman Lera McNamara
had the highest individual finish in the meet for the Golden
Eagles. She placed seventh in the 5,000-meter run with a time of
21:01.96. Tech also got a Top 10 showing the same event from
freshman Baylee
Balgemann, who placed 10th in 21:40.30.
The Golden Eagles had three additional Top 20 individual finishes
during the two-day meet. Westbrook's triple jump earned her a
17th place showing, for the team's second-best
performance. Freshman Anna Cooper
placed 20th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.49,
while Chelsea Mills
also claimed a 20th place finish with a high jump of 4
feet, 11 inches.
Tech will jump back into action next weekend in Nashville at the
Vanderbilt Invitational, scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
