Tennessee Tech wraps up day one of Black & Gold Meet

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Tech track & field wrapped up day one at the Vanderbilt Black & Gold meet in Nashville on Friday evening.

Junior Tiara Hymon led the way on Friday, running a personal best 26.31 in the 200m-race. Her time was good enough for 19th out of over 40 competitors. Teammate Brittany McGee ran a 27.66 in the 200m as well. 

Tech recieved solid first time performances from multiple first time performers in the outdoor season. Freshmen Madison Stremler, Sonel Bezuidenhout, Kathie O'Neill, Anna Cooper, and Priscah Jemeli all competed in their first 1500m-run. Stremler finished in 5:02.49, while Bezuindenhout followed in 5:17.21. O'Neill crossed the finish line at 5:30.54, Cooper came in at 5:41.56, and Jemeli rounded it out in 6:09.08.

Senior thrower Ashley Lowe participated in her first hammer throw event, launching the hammer a distance of 108-11.

Junior Atlanta Westbrook took 8th in the triple jump event with a mark of 36-1.5.

The Golden Eagles will participate in eight events on Saturday, with the field events starting around 10 a.m. CT, and running events around 12 p.m.
