Tech track, cross country programs add Eugene Frazier as assistant coach

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With a lengthy list of success, both as a runner and as a coach, Eugene Frazier has been named as an assistant cross country and track & field coach at Tennessee Tech. The addition of Frazier was announced this week by first-year head coach Wayne Angel.

"I am very pleased to add Eugene to our staff at Tennessee Tech," Angel said. "We was extremely competitive as a runner, and he has that unique ability to transfer his will to compete and his knowledge to his student-athletes in the role of coach. I believe he will be an asset to Tennessee Tech, and will help to develop our student-athletes to the very best of their abilities."

Frazier received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 1998 from Alabama State University. He is also USATF Level 1 certified as well as NCAA Recruitment certified. While an undergraduate, he was named the Alabama State University Most Outstanding Sprinter. At the 1995 Southwest Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships, he was the runnerup in both the 100-meter and 200-meter races. The following year, he was the SWAC champion in the 60-meter, 100-meter and 4x100-meter events.

Continuing his running career, he was a qualifier in the 60-meter dash for the 2000 and 2003 USATF Indoor Nationals.

He began his coaching career in 1998 as an assistant coach at Kansas City Community College, developing and directing a successful sprint/hurdles/jumps program. In 2006, He accepted a new post as assistant track coach at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas. His responsibilities included oversight for following of institutional policies, rules and NJCAA regulations. He also monitored academic progress of the team's student-athletes, conducted practices and developed the sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers.

Following five seasons at Butler, he moved to Florida A&M where he worked under Angel. He handled many of the same duties for the Rattlers as he had done his previous positions.
